Data science is showing up more and more. It has event been titled the “sexiest job in of the 21st century“!
But like many things that get popular quickly, the supply of data scientists has not kept pace with the demand. There are numerous articles about the supply and demand conundrum in the workforce, see here and here and here.
So how can we prepare more data scientists to go into the workforce? What do they need to know? Where do they gain these skills?
These and other questions are leading to the birth of the Data Science Education field. A field that is also rapidly growing with practitioners and researchers from a wide range of fields like computational thinking, statistics, science and math domains, K-gray education, and many others.
Some of us have gathered at the Data Science Education Technology Conference, sponsored by The Concord Consortium. For 2.5 days we are diving into where we are at with Data Science Education and how can we advance and grow the field in the future. Follow us on Twitter at @CODAPDataSci.
